Job description
The Amsterdam Institute for Life and Environment (A-LIFE) invites applications for 3 Tenure Track positions as Assistant Professor in the area of Evolutionary Adaptation in the Anthropocene.
Humans are causing unprecedented and fast changes on our planet, challenging scientists to understand the effect of anthropogenic environmental change (urbanization, climate, pollution, land-use change) on the distribution, traits and interactions of species.
We are looking for candidates who combine outstanding research with enthusiastic teaching in understanding the role of genetic and phenotypic variation in the adaptation of species to anthropogenic habitats.
The three positions have the following research focus:
  • Molecular Evolution: Molecular basis of adaptation in human environments
  • Landscape Genetics: Effects of spatial heterogeneity in landscape on adaptation
  • Evolutionary Ecology: Evolution of interspecies interactions in new ecosystems
The positions are embedded in the section Ecology & Evolution, a vibrant and informal research group with a strong global track record in molecular evolution, stress adaptation, species interactions and trait ecology. The candidates are expected to contribute to our focus on integrative ecological and evolutionary research.
We ask candidates to write a concise research statement (max. 1 pages) that identifies and presents how their research plans will contribute to the research portfolio of the section Ecology and Evolution. In addition, we ask candidates to provide a concise teaching statement (also 1 pages max.) reflecting on their teaching vision and how they will contribute to the teaching tasks of the department.
