The UMC Utrecht Brain ">https://www.umcutrecht.nl/en/research/center/brain-center">Brain Center is an internationally recognized research institute with an outstanding track record in fundamental and clinical neuroscience research. The research in the Department">http://www.translationalneuroscience.nl">Department of Translational Neuroscience is focused on how the brain develops and functions at the molecular, cellular, and circuits levels, and on how deregulation of these processes leads to neurological and psychiatric disorders. The Department is a hub for multidisciplinary and collaborative research on neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders.
The Department of Translational Neuroscience has openings for
2 Assistant professor (Tenure Track) positions in molecular and cellular neuroscience
We seek outstanding candidates with an excellent track record in: 1) cellular or mouse (transgenic, viral-induced) models of human brain disease and with expertise in state-of-the-art genome editing and bioinformatics, or 2) in cellular models of human brain disease (iPS cells, organoids) and associated state-of-the-art molecular (e.g. genome editing) and neurophysiological techniques (e.g. calcium imaging, patch-clamping, multiple-electrode arrays). Candidates should have an interest in neuronal/glial biology, development of brain circuits, and/or brain diseases.
We expect that the candidate:
- Is an early-stage career scientist with an excellent publication track record and a clear independent research line in his/her area of neuroscience research.
- Has the ambition, knowledge, and skills to conduct fundamental neurobiological research at the highest level, with a clear (pre-)clinical link to psychiatry and/or neurology (for clinical focus areas of the Department see Department">http://www.translationalneuroscience.nl">Department of Translational Neuroscience).
- Is successful in attracting research funding and aims to establish and maintain an independent competitive research group within the field of molecular and cellular neurobiology using innovative technology.
- Is well informed about the potential European and Dutch funding opportunities and eager to apply for individual and collaborative grants.
- Seeks interactions with (pre)clinical and fundamental researchers within the department, the UMC Utrecht Brain Center, the UMCU Utrecht, the Utrecht Science Park, and beyond.
- Is motivated to teach neuroscience at the bachelor's and master's level (biomedical sciences and medicine) and has already a University Teaching Qualification (BKO) or is willing to follow training to obtain a BKO.
- Has strong educational/training skills and leadership qualities.
We offer a 5-year position in a vibrant, multidisciplinary environment with excellent facilities for fundamental neurobiological research and synergetic interactions with clinical research. Depending on performance, the tenure track can evolve in a permanent position after five years.
Candidates should provide the following information in a single PDF file: a cover letter explaining their motivation to join the Department of Translation Neuroscience, a CV, a research statement and a teaching statement (3 pages max each; past performance, future plans (5 years), and fit with the Department), and contacts of three references. Applications and queries should be sent to the search committee (TN-Secretariat">mailto:[email protected]">TN-Secretariat @umcutrecht.nl) before March 1, 2022.
