POSITION DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated scientist to join BeiGene Innovation Center (BIC) in Guangzhou to lead the discovery biology group. BIC is a fully integrated biotechnology incubator with dedicated discovery scientists, venture investors and operational support teams to breed the next generation of leading biotech companies with potential breakthrough discovery platforms or therapeutics. Since its inauguration in December 2021, BIC has successfully recruited a dedicated team of industry veterans with decades of discovery experiences from leading global pharms and enthusiastic young talents from leading academic institutes. BIC also established a portfolio of incubation opportunities with US and China-based entrepreneurs. The Head of Biology will play a key role in the development of key experiments to validate novel scientific hypotheses with the potential for newco formation. The successful candidate for this position must have broad exposure to drug discovery across multiple therapeutic areas, and be familiar with modern molecular and cell biology tools and technologies that would enable the execution a discovery program upon successful validation of the scientific hypothesis.

The Head of Biology will work closely with the rest of the scientific leadership team at BIC to identify, validate and advance novel ideas along an accelerated timeline for venture creation. The ideal candidate will have strong entrepreneur mindset and experience managing groups of 5+ direct reports with advanced degrees. The successful candidate should be energetic and inspirational, and be willing to coach and mentor internal and external team members at the Innovation Center to create an innovation ecosystem for life sciences.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the discovery biology team at BeiGene Innovation Center.
  • Lead and support ongoing projects to the next stage of key milestones, including hypothesis validation, fund raising, KOL search, and SAR support.
  • Coach and develop scientists at BIC
  • Support the branding of IC at scientific and investment communities

Technical/Skills Require

  • Ph.D. in biology or related discipline with at least 10 years drug discovery and development experience across multiple therapeutic areas
  • Deep foundational biology knowledge
  • Prior experience of leading target identification and validation efforts
  • Demonstrated ability to develop flow schemes to support lead identification and optimization
  • Prior experience of identifying patient-tailoring strategy
  • Strong interpersonal capabilities and ability to build internal and external networks
  • Familiar with CRO network
  • Demonstrated people management capability and capacity
  • Demonstrated ability to build an inclusive working environment to support innovation
