Chair, Department of Clinical Pharmacy

The University of California, San Francisco School of Pharmacy (UCSF School of Pharmacy) seeks an experienced individual to lead its Department of Clinical Pharmacy. The successful candidate is a nationally known, funded researcher in an area relevant to pharmacy. We are particularly interested in researchers with expertise in pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacoeconomics, pharmaceutical health services, outcomes research, health policy and implementation science. Other areas of potential interest include pharmacogenomics and research that is relevant to modeling and simulation, drug development and regulatory science. The major goal will be to build a research vision and focus for the department. In addition, this individual will provide academic and administrative leadership to the department and ensure that the department's goals and activities align with the priorities of the School of Pharmacy, support and mentor faculty, promote research, scholarship and education, advance pharmacy practice and represent the department both within UCSF and externally. Fostering diversity, equity and inclusion in education, research and service is an important responsibility of the new chair. Key responsibilities include:

Strategic Leadership

Working with the faculty, develop and implement the department's vision, mission, and strategic plan.
Provide visionary leadership with future-oriented thinking about the direction of the field of clinical
pharmacy/pharmacy practice.
Build a strong research focus in the department, which may be in any area relevant to the practice of
pharmacy including: pharmacoeconomics, pharmacoepidemiology, pharmaceutical health services, outcomes research, implementation sciences or other relevant areas. The research focus may include development of a PhD graduate program.
Act collaboratively and make decisions based on what will bring the greatest benefit to the Department and School, balancing the needs of the department with the needs of the School.

Personnel Management

Oversee recruitment, retention, promotion, and tenure processes for faculty within the department.
Promote faculty professional development, research endeavors, and scholarship.
Foster an inclusive and collaborative academic environment with a commitment to diversity, equity, and
inclusion among the faculty, students, and staff.
Promote teamwork and collaboration both within the department and between/among other
departments, as well as across schools and UC campuses.

Research and Scholarship

Build a research vision for the department and develop research areas of focus.
Advance the department's research profile by promoting faculty research across the campus and
nationally.
Foster collaborations both within and outside the institution. For example, depending upon the
individual candidate's unique background and interest, opportunities for collaborations with the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies, the Institute for Human Genetics and the Bakar Computational Health Sciences Institute are among many such opportunities within the campus aimed at strengthening the Department.
Engage in professional associations, committees, and task forces to promote the department, school, and profession.

Education

Support and develop faculty interested in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Support and mentor faculty members in their teaching responsibilities.
Working with the vice deans of PharmD education, help ensure that the school's PharmD curriculum
including didactic and experiential education is relevant, meets accreditation standards and the needs of
practicing pharmacists.
Develop, contribute to, and support other degree programs in the School of Pharmacy such as MS and
PhD degree programs.
Promote interprofessional education and collaboration efforts.
Ensure a supportive learning environment for students and encourage their professional development.

Budget and Resource Management

Working with the Dean of the School of Pharmacy, develop and manage the department's annual
budget.
Ensure appropriate allocation of resources to fulfill departmental needs.

This is a full-time academic position. The successful candidate will have a 100% FTE faculty appointment at the associate professor or full professor level in either the ladder rank or Clinical X academic series, depending on their experience and qualifications. Additional start-up funding support will also be made available.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary range for this position is $139,500-$297,200. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.

Qualifications

A PharmD, PharmD/PhD, or equivalent degree that includes an educational background in pharmacy is required.
Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in academic pharmacy or a related area, with a record of leadership and mentoring activities.
A robust record of research, scholarship, and professional accomplishments.
Active engagement in relevant professional organizations.
