Project – “ Confronting Cosmological Tensions in ESA Surveys using Machine Learning (CosmoLearn)”
Funded by the Malta Council for Science and Technology - FUSION R&I: Research Excellence Programme 2023
And any other projects undertaken by the Institute of Space Sciences & Astronomy
Applications are invited for a Research Support Officer to carry out duties in relation to the “Confronting Cosmological Tensions in ESA Surveys using Machine Learning (CosmoLearn)” project funded by the Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) and in which the University of Malta is a partner. The Research Support Officer may also be required to work on other projects undertaken by the Institute of Space Sciences & Astronomy.
Applicants should be in possession of a PhD in Cosmology, or a related field of research. Skills related to numerical analysis and simulation physics in cosmology will be considered an asset, as will experience in machine learning.

The post is for a period of up to 16 months, which may be extended further subject to the availability of funds.
The position starts at the remuneration per annum of €31,200. Candidates who already hold, or had held within the last six months, a Research Support Officer post (in the same grade) at the University of Malta, will start at their latest salary scale in accordance with the present salary structure for Research Support Officers.
As from 1st January 2024, in accordance with the new salary structure for Research Support Officers, the remuneration per annum inclusive of any cost-of-living adjustment shall be €35,111.
