Post/s of Full-Time Research Support Officer I or II - Outreach and Research Communications Manager

Institute of Digital Games

 

Applications are invited for a Research Support Officer I or II - Outreach and Research Communications Manager on a full time basis at the Institute of Digital Games of the University of Malta. The Institute of Digital Games (http://www.game.edu.mt/ ) is the centre for research and education in game design, game analysis, and game technology at the University of Malta. Work performed by the Institute is at the forefront of innovative games research. Members of the Institute explore games and play, uncovering new playful and generative possibilities in game design and technology by delving into everything games can teach us about ourselves. The multidisciplinary academic team of the Institute of Digital Games spans computer science, literature, game design, philosophy, media studies, and social sciences.

 

The following skills and experience are required for the post:

 

  • Hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in a relevant field);
  • Have experience with administrative processes and accounts;
  • Have excellent communication skills, both oral and written (an excellent command of English is essential);
  • Affinity and experience with research communication, digital marketing, dissemination and outreach (for more details regarding expected responsibilities please refer to the next page); 
  • Should be able to work both independently and as a member of a team;
  • Have experience working with multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.

 

The selected candidate must be living in Malta for the period of employment.

 

The appointment will be on a renewable contract (of 1-year periods), subject to a 6-month probationary period. Appointment is expected as soon as possible and it is up to negotiation.

 

Candidates who already hold, or had held within the last six months, a Research Support Officer post (in the same grade) at the University of Malta will start at their latest salary scale in accordance with the salary structure for Research Support Officers.  The gross salary per annum for the above-mentioned post will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The initial remuneration per annum is as follows: 

Research Support Officer I (in possession of a Bachelor’s degree) – €20,800

Research Support Officer II (in possession of a Master’s degree) – €24,960

Further Information

Expected responsibilities and tasks include the following (in order of importance):

 

  • Providing administrative assistance for the Institute;
  • Planning and organising public and game-relevant events and activities;
  • Organize events and activities that optimize the productive exchange of knowledge and the development of game design, game studies, and game AI talent in Malta;
  • Social media and web presence marketing of the Institute’s educational programs and research activities; manage communication channels, including newsletter and social media accounts;
  • Communicating with local and international stakeholders: students, academics, industry, and government;
  • Maintain and further develop Institute of Digital Games website, ensuring that it reflects the current status of all initiatives;
  • Help promote IDG’s image and reputation through specific events and participation in relevant events and media opportunities;
  • Design, schedule, and implement the strategic communication and events plan in collaboration with the Director of the Institute of Digital Games (IDG);
  • Handling and co-managing the communication and dissemination strategy of the Institute’s research projects;
  • Create content surrounding Institute of Digital Games news, events, and activities;
  • Liaise with other industry, academia, and media stakeholders both inside and outside our community;
  • Provide support, when requested, to Public Relations and communication activities, including interviews on IDG activities with journalists and the media.

 

The selection procedure will involve:

a.      scrutiny of qualifications and experience claimed and supported by testimonials and/or certificates (copies to be included with the application); and

b.      shortlisting; and

c.      an interview and / or extended interview.

 

The appointment will be subject to a probationary period, and to the provisions of the Statutes, Regulations and Bye-Laws of the University which are now or which may hereafter be in force.
