The Department of Communication of the Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for the position of Associate/Assistant Professor in cultural studies. We are looking for applicants qualified to teach in some of the following areas: popular culture, Macau and Hong Kong cultures, cultural and creative industries, cinema studies, qualitative research methods, discourse analysis, gender studies, and platform studies. A track record of high-quality research and publications is a must. Ability to develop new courses in new media will be highly desirable. Additional courses may be assigned to match the teaching needs of the department, faculty, and the University. 

The Department of Communication currently offers broad-based curricula leading to Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees covering various areas of communication studies (communication theory, intercultural communication, organizational communication, communication skills); vocationally-oriented public communication (public relations, advertising, and event planning); media studies and journalism (journalism writing and publication, mass media, new media, digital culture); cultural studies (cultural and critical theory, cinema, and popular culture); public speaking; and creative media (video production, photography, and animation). Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field. Highly qualified ABDs will be considered, but must have the doctorate in hand before reporting to duty. Candidates must have a demonstrable record of conducting research and publishing in internationally respected channels, ideally SSCI and/or AHCI journals. Professional media experience and/or teaching experience at the university level is highly desirable. While candidates must be fluent in English, ability to speak Chinese would be a plus but not required. 

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in January 2025. 

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
