The Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE) brings together expertise from the humanities, linguistics, cognitive sciences, social and educational sciences. Your Role...

The research scientist will join the Luxembourg branch of the cross-national study “Health Behaviour in School-Aged Children” (HBSC), an established large-scale international research cooperation to investigate the health behaviour of school-aged children and adolescents. It is supported by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and currently includes 50 countries and regions in Europe, North America, and Asia. Luxembourg conducted its first HBSC pilot survey in 1999 and has participated regularly in the HBSC surveys since 2006 (see www.hbsc.org  and www.hbsc.lu ).

The core of the research project is a quadrennial survey of pupils aged 11 to 18 years on topics such as health, health-related behaviour, and environmental conditions. The data is collected and analysed in cooperation with national stakeholders and the HBSC Research Network.

The successful candidate will act as a Co-Principal Investigator, oversee the day-to-day management of a small research team, and contribute to various tasks related to the project and its dissemination through research publications (journal articles, fact sheets, policy reports). A second responsibility pertains to teaching quantitative research methodology at the BA, MA, and PhD level.

Tasks

  • Act as a Co-Principal Investigator in the cross-national study “Health Behaviour in School-Aged Children” (HBSC)
  • Disseminate and present findings of HBSC as well as own research findings via national and international publications
  • Develop third-party funded research projects based on HBSC and on selected aspects of quantitative research methodology
  • Teach quantitative research methodology at the BA, MA, and PhD level
  • Advise PhD students and researchers concerning methodological questions
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders within and outside the university

What we expect from you…
  • PhD in a relevant field (e.g. sociology, psychology, public health)
  • Relevant postdoctoral work and/or research experience, publications on quantitative research methodology will be considered an asset
  • Experience with a wide range of quantitative research methods (e.g., survey research, experiments, analysis of secondary data)
  • Experience with teaching quantitative methodology and data analysis at the BA, MA, and PhD level
  • Experience with data processing and analysis software (e.g. R, SPSS, Stata, Python, etc.)
  • Excellent command of at least two of the following languages: English, French, German (written and spoken); Luxembourgish is considered an asset
