You ‘d like to contribute as a researcher? Join our Materials Research and Technology department

Through its research into advanced materials and processes, the “Materials Research and Technology” (MRT) department, with its 200 researchers and engineers, contributes to the emergence of enabling technologies that underpin the innovation processes of local and international industry. MRT’s activities hinge on four thematic pillars: nanomaterials and nanotechnology, scientific instrumentation and process technology, structural composites, and functional polymers.

The department also includes four high-tech platforms, focusing on composites, prototyping, characterization and testing. These platforms serve both LIST research staff, and other stakeholders in Luxembourg.

Responsibilities
How will you contribute?

We are looking for a highly motivated researcher that holds a PhD degree to perform a key-role in a project in collaboration with a Luxembourgish industrial partner ROTAREX. The project is applicative-oriented and focused on the development of a protective coating by Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD), to be deposited on gas-exposed parts in valves.

The aim of the project is to develop and demonstrate an efficient antipollution coating, preventing chemical reactions between highly-reactive gases and metallic valve parts, especially designed to resist to the deformation and stress in flexible parts for gas flow regulation.

The coating is to be done on all type of materials present in the valves (polymeric ones included) and should be applied homogeny to different type of design

You, as Postdoc researcher, have to design and perform experimental procedures. You proceed to analysis and give explanation to experimental data. You work on various equipment of Atomic Layer Deposition coating technology (ALD) that are each already available in LIST laboratories. You can rely on the wide range of instruments (XPS, ToF-SIMS, FT-IR, XRD, SEM, EDX, etc.) of the Instrumental Platform Unit. Ideally, you have a good knowledge of the most of them. You are able to define industrialization of the developed deposition process shall be anticipated in the project. As per so significant amount of work in laboratories is to be expected.

You are expected to contribute to dissemination via publication contribution, patent, conferences and events.
