The University of Luxembourg has the following vacancy at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) - Neuroimmunology group: Laboratory Manager in Neuroimmunology.

AREA:

Role of immune mechanisms in models of neurodegenerative disease, Alzheimer’s disease.

DESCRIPTION:

The Neuroimmunology group at the LCSB, led by Prof. Michael Heneka, is starting its activities at LCSB in early 2022. It focuses on the role of immune mechanisms in neurodegenerative diseases, with a particular focus on Alzheimer’s disease. This research group has an immediate opening for a motivated, talented and experienced Laboratory Manager.


Your Role...
  • Understand and analyse needs, guidelines and priorities given by the team leader and/or researchers, ensure practical preparation and planning. Provide feedback and advice on the experimental plan
  • Build, develop and customise innovative technological solutions, analytical methods, protocols, processes according to guidelines and scientific requirements. Troubleshoot problems and/or give input for problem solving
  • Control and/or ensure technical standard and non-standard activities according to procedures. Ensure maintenance and cleanliness of the workplace, the instruments and the equipment. Ensure the correct use of the instruments, the equipment and the materials. Perform corrective/preventive actions based on maintenance plans and operating procedures
  • Develop and ensure transfer of knowledge internally according to the domain of expertise. Design and prepare training material to ensure adequate handling of scientific instruments
  • Ensure laboratory activities according to internal guidelines. Coordinate service interventions with the lab support team for complex scientific instruments to reduce downtimes. Ensure the ordering and coordinate the stock of all disposables, chemicals equipment, according to given internal guidelines and health and safety regulations. Be part of the team who takes the decision about the acquisition of new equipment
  • Conduct experiments end to end and ensure research project/program milestone completion. Responsible for the realisation of deliverables in the expected time frame

What we expect from you…
  • Master’s degree or equivalent by work experience, having a PhD would be an advantage
  • 5+ years of relevant working experience
  • Experience in the various techniques of molecular biology
  • Knowledge in administrative processes related to animal research. Holding a FELASA degree is an asset
  • Highly organized and a good coordinator, motivated and flexible. Reliable, efficient and proactive
  • Ability to work in a team and willing to take initiative, leadership and responsibility to support building up the new group at the LCSB
  • Communication in English is essential, both written and spoken. German, French or Luxemburgish are considered as assets
