Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor / Post-doctoral Fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Ref.: 509174), to commence on or before July 1, 2022 for up to three years.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers B.Eng., M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degree programmes. The University of Hong Kong has a highly ranked engineering school and an active Mechanical Engineering Programme. The Department employs about 30 full-time faculty members and has well-equipped teaching and research facilities and support. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or a related engineering field. They should also have an excellent command of English, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Previous teaching experience will be a plus. Prior academic or industrial R&D track records in biotechnologies, biomicrofluidics and biochemistry will be advantageous. Those with strong motivation and willingness to engage in innovative teaching schemes such as flipped classroom and e-Learning are preferred.
The appointee will work within Professor H.C. Shum’s research group and participate in a large-scale collaborative multidisciplinary research related to, but not limited to microfluidics-based biotechnologies, biomaterial engineering and biomedical instrumentations. He/She is expected to develop a sub-group with synergy and coherence with the larger group; teach or contribute to the teaching of undergraduate and Master’s degree courses in Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering; apply for research funding; and supervise research postgraduate students and capstone projects with engineering contents for final year undergraduates. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
