Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 16 Jul 2022

Postdoctoral research – Biointerfaces, physical and chemical nano-characterization

The postdoctoral research will be performed at the top research facilities of the BSMA team , which is part of the Institute of Condensed Matter and Nanosciences of UCLouvain (https://uclouvain.be/en /research-institutes/imcn/bsma). The postdoctoral project encompasses the characterization, processing and integration of custom biomaterials into a cornea-on-chip platform. The postdoctoral fellow will support and help supervise three PhD students shared between BSMA and 1) PBM-UGent (Prof. Van Vlierberghe), 2) CMST-UGent (Prof. Vanfleteren) and 3) ARGOS-UAntwerp (Dr. Van den Bogerd). The postdoctoral fellow will be mainly engaged with the following research tasks:

  • Chemical and 2D/3D molecular characterization of biomaterials and corneal samples (ToF-SIMS, XPS, wettability measurements, etc.)
  • Physical and mechanical characterization of biomaterials (AFM, S/TEM, nanoindentation, swelling)
  • optimization of interfaces and of the bioprinting process
  • drug diffusion studies (molecular localization by ToF-SIMS, LC-MS, colorimetric assays, etc.)
