Offer Description
The Quantum Machines Unit (https://groups.oist.jp/qmech ), seeks to develop hybrid quantum devices – where different types of quantum technologies are married together to build devices with unique functionality e.g. quantum sensors, quantum interfaces, probing the fundamentals of quantum mechanics, novel quantum computing architectures etc. Quantum Machines studied within the Unit can incorporate a wide variety of quantum technological platforms including solid-state, and mechanical quantum systems. In addition to theoretical work the Unit is focused on developing experimental quantum technology based on the preparation of quantum states of motion using magnetic levitation of small objects in vacuum. Such levitated nanoparticles may prove useful for the investigation of macroscopic Schrodinger Cats – which are useful for precision sensing and probing the fundamental links between gravity and quantum mechanics.
Position :
We are seeking talented researchers to perform experimental research in the field of hybrid quantum machines. This research is focused on the generation of macroscopic Schrodinger cats using trapped objects – either at room temperature or at cryogenic temperatures. We seek experimentalists with engineering/experimental expertise in any of the following: vacuum, electronic, vibration, optical or magnetic with any expertise in levitation being highly desirable.
Requirement: PhD in physics or related discipline; Prior experience in research related to experiments/engineering related to vacuum, electronic, vibration, optical or magnetic.
Period of Contract: Full-time, fixed term appointment for 2 years. Contract initially with 3 month probationary period (inclusive). This contract may be renewed.
We pay an internationally competitive salary. The amount of the annual salary is determined according to the number of years since the candidate acquired a Ph.D degree. It starts from about 4.4 Million JPY immediately following one’s PhD, increasing annually. If the candidate has more than five years of post-Ph.D experience and demonstrates remarkable academic competence, he/she may be hired as a staff scientist. In that case, the compensation and benefits are offered in accordance with the OIST Employee Compensation Regulations. In addition to salary the post attracts a housing allowance of 80 % of the rent up to 60,000 JPY/month according to the OIST Rules.
Benefits:
- Relocation, housing and commuting allowances
- Annual paid leave and summer holidays
- Health insurance (Private School Mutual Aid )
- Welfare pension insurance (kousei-nenkin)
- Worker's accident compensation insurance (roudousha-saigai-hoshou-hoken)
- Access to Child Development Center
- Access to Schooling Options
- Language Education
- Resource Center (Daily Life Support in Okinawa)
Submission Documents: - Curriculum vita in English (and Japanese if available); Cover letter in English (and Japanese if available); Names and contact information of 3~5 referees, one of which should be a previous employer. Email to [email protected]
