* Background of the recruitment and description of the project
ICYS (International Center for Young Scientists) is launched in 2003 as a new organization of NIMS in succession to "International Center for Young Scientists" with the support of Special Coordination Funds for promoting Science and Technology, a program administrated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. In a unique environment represented by "In4" (International, Interdisciplinary, Independent, Innovative), ICYS Research Fellows (ICYS-RF) conduct highly independent research under the guidance of two mentor researchers while utilizing advanced research facilities at NIMS.
The mission of an ICYS-RF is to pursue independent research based on their original innovative idea. So, the ICYS-RFs have to set the goal for their research and make the research plan by themselves to achieve best possible results. This is an important difference from usual post-doc researchers hired for specific research projects. All management and scientific discussions will be conducted in English. A research grant of 2 million yen per year will be provided to each ICYS-RF.
