* Background of the recruitment and description of the project
The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (www.oist.jp ) is seeking to recruit an Associate Dean of Faculty Recruiting and Evaluation, working in the Faculty Affairs Office. OIST is a new and innovative graduate university of science and technology in Okinawa, Japan. The working language is English, and the university community is fully international with more than 50 countries represented. The absence of academic departments facilitates multidisciplinary research across and within faculty research units. Outstanding resources and equipment are provided and managed to encourage easy access and collaboration. OIST is rapidly gaining recognition in the worldwide academic community as a model for excellence in education and research.

The Faculty Affairs Office (FAO), led by the Dean of Faculty Affairs (currently, Prof. Evan Economo), oversees essential functions supporting the success of 91 faculty and ~500 researchers. Central to these activities are the recruitment of world-class new faculty, and the evaluation of existing faculty and their research groups in a rigorous and fair manner. Other responsibilities of the FAO include space allocation, the library, professional and pedagogical development, DEI, misconduct processes, and personnel management.
