Human Technopole (HT) is a new interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian Government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health. HT is composed of five Centres: Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Genomics, Neurogenomics and Health Data Science. The Centres work together to enable interdisciplinary research and to create an open, collaborative environment that will help promote life science research both nationally and internationally.

HT is looking for a Washing, Sterilization and Media Preparation Technician to support HT’s experimental research activities.

Working closely with researchers and other lab personnel, the role will be responsible for setting up and running the daily operations of the washing, sterilization and media preparation core service, aimed at providing clean labware and sterile solutions to HT research labs and Facilities. The core service will be equipped with washing machines, autoclaves and ovens, as well as lab space and all the necessary equipment for preparation and storage of culture media and sterile solutions.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Supporting the opening of the first HT experimental labs, including their equipment with general glassware and reagents for preparing culture media and solutions required for research activities.
  • Daily collection of dirty labware and/or biological waste from the laboratories, and transfer to the washing and sterilisation service for processing.
  • Cleaning, sterilisation and restoration of laboratory materials to the different research groups and facilities, and routine quality control and optimisation of the relevant processes.
  • Refilling of glassware cupboards within the labs, ensuring continuous availability for research activities.
  • Safely operating and monitoring the optimal functioning of washing machines, autoclaves and other core service equipment.
  • Preparation of culture media (e.g. LB, LB-agar, etc.), plates, and general lab stock solutions/buffers (e.g. NaCl, PBS, EDTA, TBE, TAE, Tris-HCl pH 7.4, RNA-grade solutions, etc.) and aliquoting of common reagents, buffers and reference stocks.
  • Monitoring stocks of the relevant glassware, materials and reagents, in close coordination with warehouse personnel, and supporting warehouse and stores organisation.
  • Supporting Lab Managers and technicians in key aspects of general lab management and organisation (e.g. inventories and stocks of research reagents, equipment and materials).

  • At least 3 years’ experience working in a similar role, ideally in a biomedical research setting.
  • High School graduate, University degree or Technical school in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Highly organised; ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment and to work independently.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English – HT is an international research institute.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, open and collaborative approach, customer service attitude.
  • Special consideration will be given to candidates who are part of the protected categories list, according to L. 68/99.
