OFFER DESCRIPTION

The project will examine the role of digital social & news media in creating political value polarization among citizens & in promoting the rise of populism in Europe. It includes a comparative survey in 6 countries & analysis of debates conducted through digital media. Asking for trans- and crossnational trends in value contestation, the study combines and synthesizes public opinion surveys and media content analysis for three core value conflicts (freedom of speech; independence of judiciary; gender equality) in six EU member states (Ireland, France, Germany, Poland, Italy, and Spain).
Qualitative and quantitative social sciences research methods, especially in the fields of digital and social media analysis, will be used.

Eligibility criteria

Applications are invited from candidates who have completed a PhD in Sociology, Political Science, Media and Communication.
Candidates who have completed the aforementioned degrees abroad may also apply, if said degrees are recognized as equivalent to Italian degrees.
Knowledge of English and Italian languages is also required to carry out the research activity.
Additional competence and/or experience relevant to the choice of the researcher: knowledge of French language.
