Technician/Sr. Technician (Carninci Group) – Genomics Research Centre, Functional Genomics Programme
APPLICATION CLOSING DATE: September 8th 2022
Human Technopole (HT) is a new interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian Government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health. HT is composed of five Centres: Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Genomics, Neurogenomics and Health Data Science. The Centres work together to enable interdisciplinary research and to create an open, collaborative environment that will help promote life science research both nationally and internationally.
The Carninci Group in the Centre for Genomics – Functional Programme (https://humantechnopole.it/en/research-groups/carninci-group rel="noopener">">https://humantechnopole.it/en/research-groups/carninci-group ) is focused on developing and applying new technologies to understand gene regulation, with particular attention to the role of non-coding part of the genome and non-coding RNA. The group is now inviting outstanding candidates with an excellent background in Genomics, molecular biology/biotechnology and proven track record in a broad range of laboratory techniques to apply for a position as Technician or Sr. Technician, depending on the experience.
The successful candidate will report directly to Dr. Piero Carninci, Head of the Centre for Genomics – Functional Programme.
Key tasks and responsibilities
- Conducting experiments in the area of functional genomics, combining cutting-edge methods from molecular biology, cell biology and genomics technologies, biochemistry, cell culture and, with a strong emphasis on development, optimization and application of functional genomics protocols and assaying long non-coding RNA functions.
- Generating, importing and optimizations of new tools and protocols.
- Generating reliable data for publication in the projects to which s/he is assigned and record all data and results in specified forms (paper and electronic).
- Providing technical support and supervision to other laboratory members, including introduction and teaching of new laboratory techniques and support on the use of lab equipment to lab members, as well as members from other laboratories.
- Participating in key aspects of general lab management and organization (e.g., managing inventories and stocks of samples, reagents, equipment and materials.
- Considerable experience in laboratories involved in the area of main responsibilities, with particular emphasis on genomics. For a Senior Technician, at least 5 years of proven experience as Laboratory Technician or equivalent positions.
- Track record in the following areas: Functional Genomics libraries preparation and optimization for next generation sequencing; Molecular Biology (DNA and RNA manipulation, cloning, sequencing, RT-PCR and library preparation for next-generation sequencing applications), Protein Biochemistry (immunoblotting and immunoprecipitation techniques, preferably also recombinant protein expression, purification and in vitro reactions), Cell culture, transfection and knockdown experiments (siRNA, shRNA, antisense and similar technologies) to probe gene functions.
- Broad technical understanding of the area of genomics, next generation sequencing, cell culture, knock-down methodologies and other areas of main responsibilities.
- Fluency in English – HT is an international research institute.
Additional desired requirements
- Previous work with laboratory animals will also be considered a relevant asset;
Required personal skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment and to work independently;
