Technician/ Senior Technician (Magda Bienko Group)

Updated: almost 2 years ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 05 Jun 2022

APPLICATION CLOSING DATE: June 5th 2022

Human Technopole (HT) is a new interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian Government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health. HT is composed of five Centres: Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Genomics, Neurogenomics and Health Data Science. The Centres work together to enable interdisciplinary research and to create an open, collaborative environment that will help promote life science research both nationally and internationally.

The Bienko Group at HT (https://humantechnopole.it/en/news/introducing-magda-bienko/ rel="noopener">">https://humantechnopole.it/en/news/introducing-magda-bienko/ ) focuses on understanding the fundamental principles that regulate how chromatin is spatially organized in the nucleus of mammalian cells and how the three-dimentional (3D) organization of the genome is affected by alterations in its sequence, such as those commonly encountered in human cancers.

The group is now inviting outstanding candidates with an excellent background in molecular biology/biotechnology and proven track record in various laboratory techniques to apply for a position as Technician or Senior Technician depending on the candidate’s level of experience.

The successful candidate will be embedded in a multi-cultural and interdisciplinary team and take part in the lab’s efforts in engineering cells with rewired karyotypes, studying the effects of karyotypic changes on genome architecture and gene expression, and developing new methods to study the 3D genome in single cells.

She/he will have the following responsibilities:

  • Leverage CRISPR-Cas technologies to engineer cell lines carrying balanced chromosomal translocations.
  • Characterize the engineered cell lines using a variety of assays, including methods developed by the group, such as GPSeq (Girelli et al, Nat Biotechnol 2020).
  • Apply GPSeq and other sequencing-based methods established by the group in the frame of scientific collaborations with other research groups nationally and internationally.
  • Support the group in various tasks, including but not limited to: (i) overseeing reagent and small equipment purchases; (ii) setting up and maintaining a lab reagent inventory; (iii) setting up and maintaining working routines and standard operating procedures (SOP); (iv) networking with facilities at HT.

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedicine, or equivalent.
  • Extensive theoretical knowledge and documented hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture/transfection/transduction and basic molecular biology/biochemistry/microscopy techniques (DNA/RNA purification, PCR, reverse transcription, in vitro transcription, cloning, western blotting, widefield and/or confocal immunofluorescence microscopy).
  • Proficiency with various omic methods that are particularly relevant to the research focus of the group (e.g., RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, Hi-C) and/or with CRISPR-Cas technologies will be considered a strong advantage.
  • Ability to independently organize her/his own work routine and to flexibly adapt her/his weekly schedule to emerging requests.
  • Strong problem-solving and forward-looking personality, i.e., she/he is motivated to solve obstacles that might present on the path to achieving a goal, enjoys troubleshooting, is not afraid of seeking for help, and strongly believes that a solution to a problem can be found even if this means revising the original goal/plan (never compromising scientific rigor and quality).
  • Strong collaborative attitude, i.e., she/he is a strong team player and feels that the success of the whole team will only come from all its members being actively engaged and helping each other.
  • Fluency in oral and written English.
  • Special consideration will be given to candidates who are part of the protected categories list, according to L. 68/99.
