Surface derivatization of Trabecular Titanium for the conferment of antibacterial properties...

Updated: over 2 years ago
Deadline: 29 Sep 2021

This research project will concern the development of surface derivatization processes of Trabecular Titanium for the conferment of antibacterial properties. The coating of metal prostheses with calcium phosphates, bioactive and osteoconductive, improves the biocompatibility of the material and promotes the fastening of the implant to the bone. The deposition of hydroxyapatite will take place with biomimetic methods, which allow the deposition of nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite starting from supersaturated solutions, with ionic concentrations close to those of human plasma and at temperature and pH values very close to physiological ones. To obtain a coating with antibacterial characteristics, the supersaturated solution will be enriched with zinc and manganese ions, in variable quantities; nanostructuring processes based on hybrid structures ZnO-MnO-SiO2 will also be performed.
