Job description

Human Technopole (HT) is an interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian Government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health. HT is composed of five Research Centers: Neurogenomics, Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Genomics, and Health Data Science. The Centers work together to enable interdisciplinary research and to create an open, collaborative environment that will help promote life science research both nationally and internationally.


About the BSL-3 Lab:

The Human Technopole Foundation is looking for a Senior Technician Biosafety Level-3 laboratory (BSL-3). The BSL-3 laboratory allows for the study of BSL-3 pathogens for all research groups at Human Technopole. As such, it will work closely with groups from multiple Research Centers and spanning a diverse array of biological interests. Close collaboration may also be envisioned with the Advanced Cell Culture Unit within the framework of the HT National Facilities. The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of Research Facilities and Services at HT.


Key tasks and responsibilities:
  • Support the BSL-3 Committee in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and guidelines related to the use of biohazardous materials in the BSL-3 room;
  • Monitor BSL-3 research that involve the use of infectious agents and other biohazardous materials;
  • Manage the training of personnel that work in the BSL-3 lab;
  • Manage the production, handling and infection of BSL-3 viruses;
  • Establish and optimize tools and protocols relevant to the BSL-3 lab;
  • General lab management and organization (e.g., ordering/purchasing, managing inventories and stocks of samples, reagents, equipment, and materials).

Job requirements
Mandatory requirements:

On the closing date for online applications, the candidate must fulfil all the following conditions:

  • Accredited master's degree in Biomedical Sciences/Biology/Microbiology/Virology or related subjects;
  • At least 3 years of experience in BSL-3 lab workflows;
  • At least 3 years' experience supervising and training junior staff, users and postgraduate students in BSL-3 laboratory workflow management;
  • Fluency in English – HT is an international research institute.

Preferred requirements:
  • PhD in Biomedical Sciences/Biology/Microbiology/Virology;
  • In-depth knowledge of molecular biology, genomics, virology and microbiology;
  • Strong molecular and cell biology laboratory skills;
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture.

Organizational and social skills:
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills combined with the ability to manage multiple assignments and establish effective working relationships with BSL-3 facility users and other colleagues;
  • Ability to analyse, process, and report data useful for understanding the dynamics of laboratory use, implementation and change.
