The Food Security Unit (European Commission - Joint Research Centre, Ispra site in Italy) is opening a Contract Agent position for a remote sensing expert with experience in land cover/use mapping.

Main tasks will include:

  • To conduct research to improve the take up of Earth Observation data in global agricultural monitoring use cases. This includes the development of methodologies to utilise latest generation satellite imagery for crop mapping, monitoring of deforestation related to agriculture, mapping of specific crops such as for example cocoa, oil palm and rubber plantations;
  • To contribute to the development and management of Copernicus land services for agricultural use cases such as for example Copernicus Hotspots and Copernicus4GEOGLAM;
  • To contribute to specific studies on agriculture resources management funded by partner DG’s and EU Delegations;
  • To contribute to JRC scientific support and specific studies related to EU policies and regulation for sustainable agriculture and deforestation free production.
