Offer Description
The research project aims to study the role of glial cells, especially microglia, in the physiology of the Central Nervous System and their alteration in genetically-based neurological diseases, both neurodegenerative (e.g. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Alzheimer's disease), but mainly rare geneticsneuropathologies both lysosomal accumulation disorders (e.g. Fabry disease) and neurodevelopmental disorders (AGC1-deficiency and Angelman syndrome). The activity will be focused on the identification of factors secreted by glial cells both as soluble molecules and through exosomes, as well as on the molecular characterization of their physiological effect in in vitro models (cell lines, primary cultures and brain cells derived from patients’iPS cells), as well as on their alterations in the above-mentioned rare genetic neurological diseases in order to identify new potential therapeutic targets.
