FBK is a private research institution based in Trento (Italy) and operating in different scientific fields and disciplines. As such, it has the role of keeping the Autonomous Province of Trento within the mainstream of international research. FBK is made up of eleven research centres, whose activities and production are available at http://www.fbk.eu/research-centers .

Workplace

The scientific activities of the Center on Sustainable Energy are focused on developing new energy systems and technologies based on renewable sources, for multi energy generation, particularly for distributed energy applications. The main fields of research are: concentrated solar power, hydrogen storage and fuel cells and redox flow batteries.

FBK is one of the most well-known research stakeholders at the European level in small-scale concentrated solar power. It is a full member of the European Energy Research Alliance. At the same level in the topic of hydrogen storage technologies, where at EU level is leading member of research grouping HYDROGEN EUROPE within the FCH JU. The Center is collaborating with relevant stakeholders from the industrial sector and among the operators of the transmission and distribution power grids.

Job Description

The research position offered concerns the field of electric power systems applied to energy conversion devices and electric grids.

The candidate will provide support to FBK-SE in both European, local projects and direct collaborations with private stakeholders.

The research position offered concerns the study of electrical systems and related technologies, particularly applied to the following topics:

  • Optimal management of battery and hydrogen systems in off-grid or on-grid conditions, also considering the control of power converters
  • Design and modelling of solutions for enhancing grid flexibility, sector coupling and integration of storage technologies (batteries, hydrogen, …)
  • Design and modelling of technical and economical solutions supporting the establishment of Renewable Energy Communities
