In the frame of the ATENA Project ("Precision Agriculture and Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Innovation in Arboriculture") which aims to develop monitoring systems based on Artificial Intelligence and Precision Farming for the optimal planning of strategies to control disease and abiotic stressors in almond cultivations and within the Plant Pathology group of Prof. Angelo Mazzaglia, we are looking for a:

Experienced researcher or 4-10 yrs PostDoc (Assegnista Senior) who will be in charge of developing and validating mathematical models and remote sensing systems applied to plant pathology, with particular focus on the almond biotic and abiotic stressors.

The candidate will be part of a highly multidisciplinary work environment requiring knowledge of mathematics, computer science, data analysis, and interpretation of biological phenomena. During the research activity, the candidate will be involved in the development and validation of predictive models applied to plant pathology, for which scripting in at least one programming language among R, Matlab and Python is also required. In addition, the candidate is required to be proficient in written and oral English and to actively participate in writing scientific publications for the dissemination of results in international journals, as well as to participate in events and conferences related to the project.

Desired skills and experience

  • Ph.D in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences or related, Physics or related; Mathematics or related, Engineering or related obtained in Italy or abroad is mandatory.
  • Other requirements:
  • Proven research experience inherent to the project arguments.
  • Scientific publications in international journals/monographs consistent with the activities under the ATENA project;
  • Knowledge of Italian and/or English language;
  • Computer skills: C, C++, Python, R, UNIX shell scripting.
