You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where chemists, materials scientists and physicists experts collaborate, each with their own expertise, to carry out common research.

The Nanochemistry Research Line is coordinated by Liberato Manna, who has extensive experience in Functional Inorganic Materials and Devices, Functional Nanostructured Materials, Surfaces, Interfaces, and related applications.

The research focuses on fundamental research in nanocrystals, ranging from the advanced synthesis, to the assembly and the study of chemical and structural transformations in nanomaterials. 

The applications are the focus of our research and span many disparate fields, including catalysis, energy storage, optoelectronics, lighting and photovoltaics. In collaboration with other groups at IIT, we develop applications in biomedicine, photodetection and removal of heavy metals from contaminated fluids.   

Within the team, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Colloidal synthesis of Pb-free metal halide nanocrystals to be employed in photovoltaic devices
  • Characterization of Pb-free metal halide nanocrystals via structural, compositional and spectroscopic techniques
  • Characterization of the electrical properties of Pb-free metal halide nanocrystals films

This open position is financed by Mission Innovation initiative - MiSE-ENEA, through the project “Italian Energy Materials Acceleration Platform – IEMAP” (EPNZ011401).


  • A PhD in Chemistry or materials science
  • Documented experience on the nanomaterials synthesis 
  • A strong publication record
  • The ability to properly report, organize and publish research data
  • Documented experience in coaching junior scientists
  • Good command in spoken and written English


  • Experience on colloidal nanocrystals.
  • Good communication skills
