Offer Description

The PHOTOGEN project aims at the fabrication of a photoelectrochemical device for the overall water
splitting, in which tunable molecular units, embedded in an aerophobic hydrogel, cooperatively work to absorb sunlight and exploit the photogenerated redox equivalents to perform the interfacial reactions, water oxidation and proton reduction. The benefits of PHOTOGEN approach includes the exploitation of molecular sensitizers and catalysts, with tunable structure/property correlation; their incorporation within tailored aerophobic hydrogels and the possibility to gain mechanistic insights useful for future design. In particular, the implementation of a hydrogel matrix into molecular-based photoelectrodes is expected to enhance both the performances and the stability of the resulting hybrid electrodes, as well as to provide an easier gas bubble release.
