Natural Climate Solutions - assessment of potentials in Northern Germany (ClimSol)

Updated: over 2 years ago
Deadline: 25 Jan 2022

Description of the research activity: The DBU-funded project intends to investigate how large the potentials of Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) are in Northern Germany and which effects NCS could have on the natural and economic development of land use systems and biotic diversity. In a meta-study focusing on the forests and potential forest sites of the North German lowlands and their development potentials, the following information will be systematically compiled and evaluated: (1) Principle strategies of carbon storage and sequestration (2) Short-, medium- to long-term afforestation targets (3) Effects of afforestation, agroforestrysystems and forest management on ecosystem services (4) Effects of NCS in forests on biodiversity or species and biotope conservation? From the results, an expert report will be prepared for science and politics, a comprehensive literature archive will be created, and publications will be produced.

Additional research activities in the context of other research projects on similar topics may be defined in due course with the mutual agreement between research assistant and supervisor. If the supervision of this activity taking place within another project is done in detail by a different professor/researcher, the main supervisor has to explicitly countersign the part of the report regarding the activity on additional research projects.
