EO Data Science Researcher for Implementing a Drought Early Warning System

Eurac Research is an interdisciplinary research centre located in Bolzano,

Italy. At the Institute for Earth Observation (EO) we do research on the

monitoring of environmental parameters and processes with earth

observation, exploiting physical and machine learning models, mainly

focusing on the Alpine region. One of our main interests is assessing

the impact of drought on the water cycle and on vegetation. In this

context, we will implement a new drought early warning system for

mountain catchments. The person we are looking for will support our

institute by developing scientific concepts and algorithms in the field

of “Earth Observation” working in the group “Earth Observation for

Environmental Monitoring”.

Tasks:

  • Pre-processing and analyzing satellite data from optical and radar sensors
  • Analyzing timeseries of climate and hydrological data 
  • Implementing and testing machine learning models for predicting drought impacts
  • Writing scientific publications
