Offer Description

Many models extending the Standard Model to higher energy scales predict the existence of long-lived charged particles (LL) with long lifetimes. Such particles may be produced at the LHC The ATLAS experiment has shown sensitivity to such signals of new physics using a series of anomalous signals that these particles would leave in the detector. For example, high-mass LL particles can be identified by exploiting an anomalous ionization signal in the first layers of silicon in the central detector. A complementary signature would be a measurement of the time the particle takes to reach the outer detector layers.

Previous runs of the experiment have shown hints of a possible BSM signal: it becomes crucial to develop an analysis that confirms or refutes these hints, leveraging complementary information from the muon spectrometer. The ideal candidate will have experience in developing analyses for new physics searches at the ATLAS experiment at CERN.
