Offer Description

This project seeks to evaluate the potential of a cutting-edge mechanogenetic toolkit for modulating brain connectivity, with the ultimate goal of advancing treatment options for intractable brain disorders. Mechanogenetics is an emerging field of health science that combines the precision of optogenetics with the power of magneto-mechanical stimulation. Similar to optogenetics, mechanogenetics relies on targeted actuators to achieve circuit-specific effects, while harnessing the unique ability of magnetic fields to non-invasively stimulate brain tissue. We are seeking an exceptional candidate with expertise in electrophysiology to join our team. This project will extensively employ electrophysiological techniques, including patch-clamp and MEA recordings, in primary neurons and brain slices. These methods will be used to investigate the therapeutic potential of the mechanogenetic toolkit for a mouse model of a particularly challenging brain disorder, fragile X syndrome.
