Offer Description

This position is part of a project expanding ERC Starting Grant 949417 – VapLoss, a project that investigates the effect of vapour loss during planetary growth. The currently advertised project aims to investigate the timing of such vapour loss using (short-lived) radiogenic isotope systems. The candidate is therefore expected to study meteorite samples and work in a clean chemistry laboratory and mass spectrometry facility to perform isotopic analyses focused on the Mn-Cr system.

Eligibility criteria

At the deadline for submission of applications: possession of MSc degree (or equivalent) in Earth Sciences or a related field;
Before the start date of the contract: possession of PhD degree in Earth Sciences of related field.
Experience with isotope geochemistry, including digestion of rock samples, ion exchange chromatography and other activities in a clean chemistry laboratory, as well as analysis of isotopic ratios by either MC-ICPMS or TIMS. Experience with analysis of short-lived radiogenic isotope systems will be considered beneficial, as will experience with applications to cosmochemistry or planet formation processes.
