Biomass Production Platform Technician

The Human Technopole Foundation is looking for a Technician to work in the Structural Biology Research Centre, in the biomass production platform.

This state-of-the-art research support unit is dedicated to provide services in the area of large-scale production of bacterial, yeast, insect and mammalian cells, for structural biology studies.

The candidate will be focused mostly on insect and mammalian cell culture production. Training on Bioreactors will be provided.

The Technician will report directly to the Biomass production platform manager and will work in close collaboration with research groups of the Structural Biology Research Centre. You will be part of a high-standard technical unit offering in-house Biomass production services to HT scientists.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Supporting the initial setup (infrastructure and workflows) of the Biomass production platform at Human Technopole Structural Biology Research Centre;
  • Routinely run complete insect cell culture workflows aimed to the production of cell stocks and their subculturing;
  • Support researchers in the Baculovirus production and heterologous expression workflows;
  • Routinely run complete small (with flask and roller bottles) and possibly large-scale (with 0,5L and 15L Bioreactors) mammalian cell culture workflows;
  • Actively participate in resource planning and maintenance of the unit’s equipment;
  • Support the managing of key aspects of lab (e.g., managing inventories and stocks of samples, reagents, equipment and materials);

  • Proven experience in the laboratory, especially with insects cell culture (essential);
  • Proven experience with mammalian cell culture (highly desirable);
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment and to work independently;
  • Capacity to effectively communicate in English - HT is an international research institute (essential);
  • Degree in a relevant scientific discipline (desirable);
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, open and collaborative approach, customer service attitude.
