Offer Description
The 'FRUREFINERY' research project aims to reduce the amount of by-products that end up in incineration, landfill, water or other waste from fruit processing. Landfilling and composting are the usual disposal methods for fruit processing residues, which contribute to a negative impact on the environment, particularly due to greenhouse gas emissions. In this project, the research activities covered by the funding aim to optimize some non-thermal processes such as pulsed electric fields (PEF) and ultrasound (US) as pre-treatments to improve the efficiency of the extraction processes of oil from seeds and/or fruit kernels, thus contributing to the reduction of energy and environmental impact.
