OFFER DESCRIPTION

Implementation of 3d printing technology in human medicine has become a well known aid in surgery planning and in custom implants design. Diagnostic Imaging gives the possibility to get 3d printable models from computerized tomography scannings. Titanium is by far the most used biocompatible material for this application, it can be 3d printed but it's really expensive. Some experimental studies in small animals have shown good results using a reconstructive approach in segmental mandibulectomies with titanium plates. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the use of plastic material to obtain mandibular implants in small animal. After designing and manifacturing the implants, a surgery in post-mortem condition will be performed to fit and to evaluate the mechanical resistance. The implants will be made of inexpensive polymers like ABS and PLA, later it could be considered the use biocompatible polymers.
