Offer Description

Postdoctoral fellow positions are available in the group of Prof. Michal Leskes at the Department of Molecular Chemistry and Materials Science, Weizmann Institute of science, Israel (website ).

The projects offered are in one (or both) areas, depending on the candidate background and interest: 

• Method development and application of MAS-DNP and solid state NMR
  Requirement: PhD in Chemistry/Physics, background in solid state NMR and/or DNP and/or EPR spectroscopy.
  Specific projects: (i) Development and application of endogenous DNP approaches based on paramagnetic metal ion dopants in inorganic systems, defects and conduction electrons and (ii) NMR methods to probe ion dynamics across interfaces with sensitivity and selectivity.
   
• Development of energy storage materials for lithium and sodium based batteries  
  Requirement: PhD in Chemistry/materials science, background in solid state chemistry: synthesis and characterization, excellent analytical and technical skills.
  Specific projects: (iii) understanding and designing efficient electrode-electrolyte interfaces, (iv) development of energy storage systems based on Na and Li ions (including metal electrode and solid electrolytes).   

Candidates should have a PhD in Chemistry/Physics/Materials Science with proven experience in magnetic resonance and/or materials science. Postdoctoral experience or equivalent is an advantage. Excellent communication skills in English and ability to work in a research team are required.

Our lab hosts a Bruker 400MHz MAS-DNP spectrometer with LT-MAS DNP probes, a wide range of MAS and static solids NMR probes, benchtop EPR and NMR systems, dedicated materials synthesis lab equipped with Argon glove boxes and battery cyclers. 

In addition to our lab dedicated equipment, we have access to on campus research support facilities: Extensive NMR and EPR systems including 400, 500 and 800MHz NMR spectrometers equipped with MAS systems and X and Q band pulse and CW EPR systems and state of the art materials characterization by electron microscopy, XPS, X-ray diffraction.

The Weizmann Institute is located in a small, affordable and friendly town, 25 minutes from Tel Aviv and 45 minutes from Jerusalem, and is one of Israel's premier scientific institutions. It is a research centre where the official language is English, and which offers numerous facilities to international visitors.
