The Benoziyo Center for Astrophysics invites highly qualified candidates to apply for the 3-year Benoziyo Prize Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Benoziyo Fellows conduct independent research as part of the Astrophysics group within the Department of Particle Physics and Astrophysics at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel. Fellows can pursue research in theoretical, numerical, observational or experimental astrophysics, and have full access to all the resources available at the center . This includes full membership of the Zwicky Transient Facilty (ZTF) as well as the BlackGem survey, extensive guaranteed time access to the Son of Xshooter (SoXs) spectrograph, soon to be commissioned at the ESO La Silla Observatory, regular access to the MMT and Magellan telescopes (8 nights per year). Intensive preparatory work is ongoing in the department in preparation to major future facilities such as the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT), as well as to the UltraSat UV space mission, and the Large Array Survey Telescope (LAST) that is being commissioned in 2023, as well as to extensive computational facilities. Fellows are encouraged to collaborate with the different research groups working on instrumentation for exoplanets detection and characterization (Ben-Ami), cosmology and high energy astrophysics (Blum), observations of cosmic explosions (Gal-Yam), few-body dynamics and theory of supernovae (Katz), theory of supernovae, sources of gravitational waves and cosmic-rays (Kushnir), alternative gravity theories (Milgrom), observations of transients, gravitational lensing, and small solar-system bodies (Ofek), theoretical high-energy astrophysics (Waxman) and algorithms and data analysis for gravitational waves, exoplanet and pulsar astronomy (Zackay). The group works in close collaboration with the experimental astro-particle and dark matter groups (Budnik, Landsman), theoretical astro-particle group (Nir, Perez) and the planetary science group (Aharonson). For additional information see the Benoziyo Center for astrophysics webpage .
The Weizmann Institute Campus is located in Rehovot, a short distance from Tel Aviv, and offers excellent conditions for research in an international setting. Candidates should submit the application material through the submission webpage: www.weizmann.ac.il/AstroCenter/fellowship-submission/ , including a research statement that includes a summary of previous achievements (up to 4 pages), and at least three reference letters. Applications submitted by Nov. 15, 2023, will receive full consideration.
