UCD Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Level 1

Updated: over 2 years ago
Location: Ireland,
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 13 Dec 2021

Applications are invited for a Temporary 24 months post of a UCD Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within Agriculture and Food Science

UCD is one of Ireland's leading universities and UCD Lyons Farm, where this position will be based, is used extensively for teaching and research in the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine.

Post quota abolition, grass-based systems will predominate in Ireland, but as land will be the main limiting resource, individual farmers will be required to expand on a limited land bank. The main aim of the research at UCD Lyons Farm is to develop a blueprint for sustainable high output grass-based spring milk production systems. The focus in such a system will be on maximising milk/milk solids output from the existing land holding which involves high output from individual cows within permitted stocking rates. This will occur most efficiently through maximising the use of grazed grass/home grown forage in the system and the strategic use of supplementation thereafter. The successful Post-Doctoral Fellow will work principally on this project collating and reporting data gathered from a 60-cow demonstration herd.

This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.

The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.

In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will also carry out the following duties specific to this project:

  • Take on the major responsibility for research completion concerned with your specific project
  • Engage with a small team of dedicated researchers on the progress of research
  • To actively research similar research work and bring innovative ideas to the research programme

Salary: €38,631 per annum

Closing date: 17:00hrs (local Irish time) on 13th December 2021

Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified. Any applications which are still in progress at the closing time of 17:00hrs (Local Irish Time) on the specified closing date will be cancelled automatically by the system. UCD are unable to accept late applications.
