Applications are invited for a Temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Biology and Environmental Science

Anthropogenic climate change is manifested through waves of heat stress. These events globally increase mortality, but larval stages of aquatic ectotherms are particularly vulnerable. Extensive research effort has been dedicated to understanding how species have historically coped with heat stress and the extent of their present buffer capacity, but true, lasting adaptation can only happen through a mutation-selection process. Despite that Barbara McClintock (1984) already pointed out that genomes possess the capacity to respond to stressful environments via mutation, the role of heat stress as “evolutionary mutagen” has only recently received
attention. As part of the “MolStressH2O" project funded by the European Research Council for five years, you will investigate mutagenicity of heat stress in environmentally relevant magnitudes comparatively in developing zebrafish, frogs, and marine ragworms, through laboratory experiments and the subsequent analysis of molecular markers and phenotypes.

This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.

The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research-led teaching.

In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will also carry out the following duties specific to this project:

Fixed Salary: €41,209 per annum
