UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or Level 2

Updated: almost 2 years ago
Location: Ireland,
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 29 Apr 2022

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or Level 2 within UCD School of Medicine.

Are you a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Fellow interested in opportunities to join our research team to investigate the chronic complications of diabetes? Diabetic kidney disease remains a serious microvascular complication of diabetes, and there is an urgent clinical need to identify those individuals at risk of progressing to renal disease, as well as to develop new therapeutic approaches. Our interdisciplinary research lies at the interface of medicine, molecular biology, transcriptomics, genomics and bioinformatics. Our research involves collaboration with molecular biologists, clinicians, and geneticists, where analysis of genome-wide association studies and next-generation sequencing hold the promise for understanding the pathogenesis of disease and by extension the development of novel diagnostics and therapeutics.

The successful applicant will play a key role as part of an international consortium exploring the molecular mechanisms underlying diabetic kidney disease. The principal responsibilities will include applying molecular cell biology techniques to investigate the functional role of candidate genes in the vascular complications of diabetes and inflammation, data mining of large scale next-generation sequencing datasets derived from human tissues and established cell model systems; and integration of multi-omics datasets (RNA-seq, microarray, genome-wide association study datasets, epigenetics datasets). This programme of work is funded by Science Foundation Ireland [SFI] The Health Research Board [HRB] and involves extensive international collaborations with investigators at Queen's University Belfast, Harvard University, the Broad Institute and MIT.
