UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or 2

Updated: 3 months ago
Location: Ireland,
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 04 Jan 2024

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or 2 within UCD School of Chemistry.

This post is funded by Science Foundation Ireland to investigate methods to degrade Per- and Poly-Fluorinated Alkyl Substances (PFAS) employing a combination of heterogeneous photocatalysis and fungal biocatalysis. The project is a collaboration between Prof Cormac Murphy, UCD School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science (biocatalysis) and Prof James Sullivan, UCD School of Chemistry (photocatalysis).

The post involves working in the group of Prof Sullivan and would suit a chemist with knowledge of heterogeneous catalysis. Experience in the preparation, characterisation and application of heterogeneous photocatalysis in aqueous systems would be a distinct advantage. Furthermore, knowledge of the methods for analysis of various PFAS (along with anticipated products of photocatalytic reaction of these) would be beneficial.

This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.

The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.
