Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or 2 within UCD School of History.

The School of History, University College Dublin, is inviting applications for a three-year postdoctoral fellowships in the history of civil wars in Europe (c. 1917-1949). For this particular post a PhD related to the history of the Greek Civil War (broadly defined) is mandatory.

Successful candidates will join the ERC Advanced Grant “CivilWars” Research Group led by Professor Robert Gerwarth. The successful candidates will have written a PhD thesis on a subject directly relevant to the project, which focuses on the comparative and entangled histories of civil wars in Europe between 1917 and 1949. Areas of particular interest include comparisons and entanglements between the Russian, Finnish, Irish, Spanish and Greek civil wars. Applications are also welcome from scholars interested in thematic connections between these individual civil wars, from humanitarianism to war volunteering, from war reporting to transnational debates on counter-insurgency and policing.

This is an academic research role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.

The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.

Postdoc Level 1 Salary Scale: €42,033 - €48,427 per annum OR Postdoc Level 2 Salary Scale: €49,790 - €54,153  per annum

Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.

The PD2 post is intended for researchers that have completed PD1. As with the PD1, if you have already completed your PD2 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD2, or your total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 6 years, you should not apply and should refer to Research Fellow posts instead.
