Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Senior Technical Officer X 2 within UCD / National Virus Reference Laboratory.

The National Virus Reference Laboratory (NVRL) plays an important role in the Irish Health Services as the principal diagnostic and reference service for clinicians investigating virus infections. The laboratory offers approximately 120 tests for the diagnosis of at least 45 different pathogens and the current workload involves performing in excess of 900,000 tests per annum. The laboratory provides a 24/7 clinical and technical on call service to deal with urgent testing requirements and to support the National Transplant Programme.

The NVRL is accredited by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a National Laboratory for Poliovirus, Influenza, Measles and Rubella. The NVRL is also accredited by the Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB) to undertake testing as detailed in the Schedule bearing the Registration Number 326MT, in compliance with the International Standard ISO/IEC 15189:2012 3rd Edition Medical laboratories - Requirements for quality and competence.

The main purpose of the post is to perform diagnostic investigations of patient samples from established procedures and ensure a rapid turnaround of laboratory test results to the NVRL service user. The post holder will also have responsibility for the supervision of relevant laboratory staff in the performance of their duties and ensure compliance with the NVRL Quality Management System and Safety Policy.
