Salary Scale - Senior Research Officer. The current salary scale for this post is €68,753 to €96,239. Starting pay will be at the minimum of the scale per Government Circular E100/8/82. In line with the Building Momentum national wage agreement the pay scale listed is due a pay increase of 2% in March 2023 and a further 1.75% in October 2023.

Based in Teagasc Food Research Centre, Ashtown, Dublin 15.

Basic Function:

Teagasc seeks to appoint a Senior Research Officer in Meat Science. The successful candidate will take on a key role in the development, management and leadership of the Teagasc meat research programme at national, European and International level. The role will have a wide remit with primary responsibility for developing an integrated and collaborative research programme incorporating animal production, genetics, meat processing, sensory analysis and consumer acceptance. The appointee will lead large competitive projects / programmes in meat science focusing on the application of fundamental knowledge of muscle biology, meat omics, meat technology, and meat quality. They will also be expected to build strong collaborative links with Meat Technology Ireland, and the wider meat industry via industry-commissioned research and development projects.

Background:

The role of Teagasc is to support competitiveness and innovation in the food industry through a high quality and scientifically sound research programme and an effective technology transfer system. This role sits within the Teagasc Food Research Programme, which is delivered from two locations, Dublin (Ashtown), and Cork (Moorepark), and it covers a wide range of scientific disciplines. Through our links with other Teagasc research centres and with universities and research organisations in Ireland and abroad we have developed a broad whole-chain approach to meat research. This ranges from improved genetics, through on-farm factors to post mortem interventions and finally to innovative meat products, novel packaging and recovering value from meat processing streams.

The candidate will be expected to provide a leadership role in the development of the meat research programme at Teagasc, Food Research Centre, Ashtown, Dublin 15.

 The ideal applicant will have:

  • A QQI Level 8 Degree in relevant Science discipline and A PhD in Meat Science, Food Science, Animal Science, or a related discipline.
  • Independent research reputation and national recognition of achievements.
  • Strong publications’ record with clear evidence of scientific leadership.
  • Expertise in meat science and a range of research methodologies attested by independent research reputation and/or national recognition.
  • Expert knowledge of the technologies available to support research.
