The Role

We are seeking a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher to work on the development of optical/near-infrared microwave kinetic inductance detectors (MKIDs) for use in astronomy instrumentation. The project, funded by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), will involve the design, fabrication, measurement, and test of novel MKID arrays. Data pipeline and data analysis will also form a significant part of the work.

The researcher will be tasked with designing the MKID arrays and the required lithographic masks, which will be sent to the Tyndall National Institute in Cork for fabrication. The researcher will be responsible for cryogenically cooling the completed MKID arrays, and testing and characterising the arrays.

It is planned that the design work will be carried out at Maynooth University, while the measurement and test work will be performed at the cryogenic laboratory facilities at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS).

Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher (2022) Salary Scale:     €48,813 per annum (1 point)

Post-Doctoral Researcher (2022) Salary Scale:                €41,209 - €47,477 per annum (6 points)

Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.
