Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 22 Feb 2023

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Research Scientist within Medicine.

Troponin I (TNI) is the leading diagnostic biomarker for acute myocardial infarction (heart attack). Currently, accurate TNI measurements have a slow turn-around time, are unsuitable for point of care testing and for remote long-term monitoring, thus increasing health care costs and morbidity. To address these difficulties a team of molecular biologists, physicists, software engineers, and diagnostic industry specialist are developing a diagnostic sensor for TNI using UCD patented technology.

The objective is to measure TNI with higher sensitivity, selectivity, simplicity, speed (turn-around time) and ease of use. This research project is funded by Enterprise Ireland. The successful applicant will work as part of the team to produce and test novel TNI sensors using recombinant DNA technology, cell biology and immunoassays. This role may possibly be extended depending on project progress.
