The HRB Irish Critical Care Clinical Trials Network (ICC-CTN) is a methodology centre based in the UCD Clinical Research Centre at St Vincent's University Hospital with Prof Nichol as Director. The ICC-CTN supports studies conducted with the Irish Critical Care Clinical Trials Group (ICC-CTG). The ICC-CTG brings together doctors, nurses and researchers to test new treatments that can improve outcomes for these patients.

Based at the UCD Clinical Research Centre at St Vincent's University Hospital, the Research Project Manager will work alongside the PI, senior ICC-CTN team members and the UCD sponsorship team to provide support to the EPO-Trauma Trial.

Traumatic injury is a major public health problem with an extraordinary human, social and economic burden. The World Health Organization forecasts that, by 2030, trauma will become the third leading cause of death and disability globally. Erythropoietin (EPO) is a glycoprotein hormone essential for erythropoiesis (red blood cell production), however, EPO has many important protective effects far beyond this. These include reducing post-trauma inflammatory tissue damage and facilitating healing and regeneration of multiple tissues and organs. EPO-TRAUMA is an international, multicentre, stratified, double blind, placebo randomised controlled trial which would be carried out in Europe, the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand.

The primary aim of this study is to determine in critically ill trauma patients the efficacy of EPO compared to placebo in reducing mortality and severe disability at six months.
