GUIDE will be Europe’s first comparative birth cohort study of children’s and young people’s wellbeing. The aim of the GUIDE study is to track children’s personal wellbeing and psychosocial development, in combination with key indicators of children’s homes, neighbourhoods, and schools, across Europe.  GUIDE will be an accelerated cohort survey including a sample of infants as well as a sample of school age children. Each Member State and Associated Country will provide nationally representative samples that are designed to retain statistical power throughout the lifetime of the study. The samples will be surveyed at regular intervals using input harmonized questionnaires and other measurement modes, until the children are 24-years old.

The Growing Up in Digital Europe Preparatory Phase (GUIDEPREP) project further develops the research infrastructure (RI) necessary to implement the GUIDE birth cohort study. This preparatory work will take place across 2022 to 2025 to ready the RI for the full-scale piloting of the GUIDE in 2026 and the first full wave of data collection in 2027.

The purpose of the role is to deliver a specific research project.  The role allows the Research Fellow the professional development opportunity to demonstrate the capacity for independent and self-directed research and scholarship and the management of a research team.  The role allows the Fellow to assemble a portfolio of independent achievement and render themselves competitive for tenured academic positions or senior scientific roles in industry.

The role is centred around developing and managing research operations in the GUIDE Central Hub at UCD. Across the funded period (a total of 4-years) these operations include but are not limited to consortium meetings, data management and e-infrastructure systems, ethics applications, data access visits, fieldwork preparation, the GUIDE communications strategy, Central Hub HR strategy, recruitment of GUIDE staff, GUIDE risk management strategy, and Central Hub budget. The role also involves client management with consortium partners and funders across Europe.

The successful applicant will also have responsibility for managing the GUIDE office space. A hybrid working arrangement is possible with a minimum of two days per week in office required. The successful applicant will be expected to live in or nearby Dublin. Commuting internationally or long distance is not appropriate for the role.

The preferred start date for the role is September 1st. However, it may be possible for the successful applicant to negotiate a later start date with the latest start possible being January 2023.
