Applications are invited for Temporary posts of a Research Assistant x2 within UCD School of Earth Sciences/iCRAG

This iCRAG/SFI-funded Research Assistant role will provide laboratory and field support for ongoing research in collaboration with industry co-funder Silicate (https://www.silicatecarbon.com/ ). A large-scale field trial involving the use of crushed returned concrete (CRC) as a soil amendment for the sequestration of atmospheric CO2 via accelerated weathering is underway in SE Ireland.

The person appointed to this role will be responsible for field-based sampling and laboratory-based geochemical measurements on soils and associated water samples. They will also be required to undertake regular sampling and to help with maintenance of mesocosm experiments at the UCD Rosemount facility as directed by the PI and the post-doctoral researcher working on this project.

Geochemical parameters to be measured include soil and water pH, total alkalinity, electrical conductivity, soil cation exchange capacity, leachable cations, soil and surface water anions and cations. Field-based gas-flux measurements will also be undertaken. Training will be given in all analytical methods.

The appointee will have opportunities to develop their laboratory skills, including on instrumentation such as ICP-MS, instrumental high-pressure ion chromatography for anion measurements and instrumental soil-gas flux measurements.

Salary Range: 30,088 - 34,062 per annum

Salary offered will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
