Research Assistant

Job Type: PartTime
Deadline: 03 Feb 2023

The Role

Maynooth University is committed to a strategy in which the primary University goals of excellent research and scholarship and outstanding education are interlinked and equally valued.

The National Centre for Geocomputation (NCG) invites applications for a part-time (0.4FTE) Research Assistant to join the D8 Health + Environment Dashboard” project led by Dr Kevin Credit. The goal of this project is to create a community-focused, interactive, and open source spatial data dashboard to display and study the interactions between health and environmental features in the Dublin area, and in particular Dublin 8. This new knowledge will help inform local planning, decision-making, and investment in the neighbourhood.

Through a partnership with the Robert Emmet Community Development Project (RECDP) and other government, academic, and non-profit stakeholders, the project will accomplish this by first engaging with the public to understand the specific health and environment data needs of the community, then collecting and combining data on key metrics, and creating new data through citizen science projects where needed. These metrics will then be made available in a straightforward, easy-to-use, online spatial data platform that provides local area and neighbourhood-wide reports and maps.

The Research Assistant will assist with all aspects of the design and implementation of the spatial data dashboard and its data dependencies, including: the development of the dashboard itself, collaborating with various data stakeholders in the region, cataloguing and making various open-source data products available to download (in a centralised repository), the creation of a research poster or academic publication on the creation of the dashboard and analysis of the data outputs, and assisting in a final public engagement and dissemination symposium at the conclusion of the project.
